Join Healthy Cedar Valley Coalition and help create a place for all to live, grow, and thrive. Healthy Cedar Valley Coalition's mission is to form partnerships that build community coalitions and capacity that will enhance the health of the Cedar Valley through education, outreach, and advocacy.
Created in January 2010, the Healthy Cedar Valley Coalition is an all-volunteer group involved with several successful projects from providing free environmental health documentaries, to offering educational classes to community gardeners, and to providing educational children's activities at summer feeding sites. HCVC's three theme groups determine where the needs are and how to address them. The three groups work in the following theme areas:
Maximize Fresh Produce Availability: This group works with community gardeners and others to maximize fresh produce availability by:
- Offering educational classes to community gardeners
- Letting gardening groups know they can donate excess produce to people in need
- Planting and tending a garden plot where produce is donated to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank
- Assisting with the children's booth at the Waterloo Farmers' Market
Maximize Health and Well Being: This group promotes health and wellbeing through fun and engaging educational experiences and opportunities by reaching out to diverse populations and removing the barriers to prevention, outreach, and education.
Sustainability: Enhances Human Health by Protecting Iowa's Air, Water and Land: This group works to educate the public on how our local environment impacts human health through:
- Air quality
- Energy
- Water quality and conservation
- Land usage
- Solid waste issues
